Our Editorial Team

Every price guide, calculator and provincial cost page onPainting Prices per Square Metre is compiled and reviewed by our editorial team — a small group of painting-cost researchers and editors focused on one thing: giving South Africans realistic, factor-based painting costs they can actually plan around.

We are an independent cost-research and quote-comparison platform, not a painting company. We publish the numbers; the work is done by independent local painters and contractors you choose and appoint directly.

What our editorial team does

• —Researches the rates. We gather per-square-metre painting rates, daily and labour-only prices, and paint and material costs from a range of South African sources and reconcile them into usable ranges.
• —Fact-checks before publishing. Every figure is sense-checked against multiple inputs and the realities of surface condition, coats, prep, access and province before it goes live.
• —Keeps guides current. Paint and labour costs move. We review and update the guides, and the "updated" date on each page reflects its last review.
• —Writes in plain South African English. No jargon for its own sake — clear explanations of what drives a price and the costs quotes routinely leave out.

Our editorial standards

We hold every guide to the same standards:

• —Ranges, not false precision. Real painting costs are ranges. We publish indicative ranges and explain the factors that move a job up or down, rather than a single "headline" number that misleads.
• —Guidance, not a quotation. Our figures are planning guidance. Final pricing is always agreed directly with your chosen painter, in writing.
• —Independence. We do not accept payment to rank, recommend or feature any painter. Our guidance is not influenced by advertisers or providers.
• —Corrections welcome. If you believe a figure is out of date or wrong for your area, tell us — we would rather fix it. See our pricing methodology for exactly how the guides are built.

Where our numbers come from

Our cost ranges draw on South African painting-cost data, current paint and supplier pricing, sampled contractor and painter rates, and patterns from completed jobs across all nine provinces. We weight these by surface type, condition, coats, prep, access and province — the same drivers a professional painter would consider. We don't invent figures, and we don't reuse overseas rates: every range is built for the South African market.

How we connect you with painters

When you request guidance through the platform, we help you turn a realistic budget into a clear brief and put you in touch with independent local painters and contractors. Those providers are independent businesses — they set their own prices and availability, and you confirm scope, price and terms with them directly. We don't perform painting work, employ painters, or guarantee any provider's pricing, timelines or workmanship.
